Bryan Rocine textbook

Below are my teaching notes from a first year Hebrew course I taught in 2014 using Learning Biblical Hebrew: A New Approach Using Discourse Analysis by Bryan M. Rocine [ISBN 1-57312-324-2].

You can order the textbook directly from the publisher at Smyth & Helwys Books, or get it in digital format from Logos Bible Software.

"Attributive" Qatal

Rocine interprets the qatal as attributive in certain contexts, which he describes as a "road less travelled." His discussion is on pages 21-22 of his textbook. Make of it what you wish.

Vocabulary - Anki Flashcard App

There is a vocabulary list at the back of Rocine (pages 411-421) but none for each lesson. I've organized the vocabulary by lesson and made a module for the Anki Flashcard app (a work in progress). I've also included the other words and phrases that are new for each lesson. The Anki module includes text, images, and audio.

Key Slides

Note: most of these slides won't make sense until you 'take the course' :), but if you already know some Hebrew they should give you an idea of Rocine's approach.

Misc Slides

These are a few miscellaneous slides I pulled out of the course at some point because I found them useful elsewhere.

My Rocine Teaching Slides

These are my teaching slides organized according to Rocine's chapters. In the 2014 first year course, I got up to Rocine chapter 38 and supplemented from my Ross lectures for some bits that I needed from the final chapters of Rocine that I didn't get to. I later taught Rocine through completely and divided it up into 3 semesters as follows: 1-18, 19-38, and 39-50. There are also 8 sets of readings at the end of the book which are designed to be done alongside the first 50 chapters as outlined in the "Reading" headings below.

Paradigms & Worksheets

These are a few of the key paradigms and worksheets to get some practice.
