Live Hebrew Interaction
Join me live online in Second Life for a no pressure, fun, relaxing experience learning Biblical Hebrew! At this point I'm just beginning so I haven't settled how I want to organize classes yet, but feel free to just drop in. Right now we have a beginner's class meeting Thursday's 6:00 PM SLT (Second Life time). SLT is the same as west coast USA time (PDT). I'm also thinking of a midday (SLT) Saturday class which would be Saturday evening in Europe. If this interests you, let me know what time works best for you.
To participate, go to http://www.secondlife.com/, the "internet's largest user-created, 3D virtual world community," and click the "Join Now" button. You'll then be given directions to sign up for an account and download the software. It's all free. Once you've done that, email me your avatar name. We can then connect in Second Life and I can get you up to speed quickly. My avatar name is Carlos Whitefalcon. My email is
(include the word hebrew in your subject line to avoid my spam filter).
A Couple of Things to Note
- Be sure to pick a user name that can be pronounced, not something with numbers or weird characters in it. You may want to consider using your first name, or a derivitive there of, as your online name (for example, I use Carlos for Charles). That will make it easier for people (like me) to associate your online character with your real life person. Of course, you can do whatever you want with this.
- You'll also need a microphone and headset. Speakers create echo, so we'll need to use a headset or ear buds or something like that.
- When you first log on, you can choose your initial destination. Help Island is a good choice. They have tutorials to show you the basics. Personally, I also highly recommend the Caledon Oxbridge University Community Gateway "featuring a full Second Life orientation walk, classes, self-paced tutorials, a home spot, a sandbox, free avatars, freebies & human helpers." Once you have an account, you can either search for Oxbridge in the Second Life software or go to their web page above and click the "Visit this Location" button. Oxbridge is built on a Steampunk theme which is pretty cool. :)
So, join us in Second Life and have some fun learning Biblical Hebrew! What's not to like? :)
Shalom,
RL Charles Grebe / SL Carlos Whitefalcon
